Sorry for being stupid but....
I have 2.2 on my GS and the lag is just driving me insane and i got sick of waiting for optus to release an update.

On to my question. Im thinking about flashing to 2.3.3 XXJVK and im not sure how to get back to stock firmware just incase, it is possible right?

And does my phone have to be rooted?

Ive seen how to flash it on XDA, looks simple enough(i havend rooted nor flashed before, new android user)

So ya if anyone could help i would appreciate it
Cheers.

RE: Sorry for being stupid but....
Hi,
The best thing to do to get most functionality would be to flash a Custom Gingerbread ROM like Darkyy's v10 RC3.

You are able to get back to Froyo from Gingerbread using Odin. I did it a couple of days ago. The trick is that you need a 3 part ROM like the XWJPC Firmware so it will flash the Phone, Modem and CSC separately.

So to answer your questions,
Yes, you can flash back to Froyo.
No, you do not have to be rooted (flashing a Custom ROM will do this for you).

Phone: SGS
ROM: Ryyuu's EDB v1.3
Kernel: Dark Core
Modem: XXJVQ
