Is Milestone on Optus locked rootable??
I recently bought the Motorola Milestone on an optus plan. Is it rootable? Is the bootloader locked? I would appreciate your help.
Thank you.

Thank you.

Yes you can root it - you will lose your Optus apps though as you will need to flash a rootable firmware version - apparently the Optus .sbf has a different bootloader that will not take the flashable exploit .sbf (someone else can confirm details but thats what I was told last night trying to help 'springah' root his via Twitter)

And yes...the bootloaders on the Milestone are all locked down. There are a couple of modded Nandroid backups and things like GOT recovery that allow tweaking of the standard signed Moto.sbf but for running custom ROMs we are hard out of luck with the Milestone.

Just do a search in the Marketplace for Milestone Overclock - thats the easiest way after rooting. There is also GOTs Open Recovery as well, but I would start with the Milestone Overclock app first.

Its just not persistant meaning you will have to reapply the module anytime you reboot the phone.

Thank u for ur help. I've used the Milestone Overclocking app. But then, G.O.T. Open Recovery has been on my mind lately. Will this erase my Optus apps? if not, I'd like to give it a go. Not sure how to do it. I'm a noob.

To use GOT's open recovery you need the vulnerability existing in the recovery if its not there you can flash just that part without reflashing the whole ROM and then apply GOT's Open Recovery.

You need sbflite from Motorola and ensure the correct drivers are installed.

If you flash the wrong .sbf (ie not just the recovery one) there is a very real chance of losing all the Optus apps - however from what I have read the Optus ROM is not root friendly as its bootloader is locked down somewhat and requires a full flash to another ROM like EU or HK etc

Hi, you have been very helpful to me. I've now got a HK non-service sbf with GOT Recovery, rooted. Can you guide me with App2sd???
