Question Good modem for Optus in South-East QLD
Hi.

I live in Redlands (Brisbane bayside) and after having my Galaxy S stolen, replacing it with an already modded phone, I've plunged into the deep end and installed a custom ROM (Darky's v10.0 RC5 Final).

I've read quite a few posts here and elsewhere and noticed references to certain modems performing better than others, i.e. reception, call quality and battery consumption.

As poor reception is an issue for me (frequently getting missed calls at home) I thought I would post here hoping for recommendations from fellow Optus users in the area.

Thanks, in anticipation.

RE: Good modem for Optus in South-East QLD
Hi Mate.
I'm on Brisbane's Northside (Chermside) and I am using Darky's v10 RC6. The modem I use is the JQ1 that comes with Darky's ROM. I tried a lot of different modem's and found that JQ1 on Gingerbread works best for me.

Seeing as Optus have announced that they are testing Gingerbread too, you might not have to wait too long for a optus specific modem (or so one can only hope).

Phone: SGS
ROM: Ryyuu's EDB v1.3
Kernel: Dark Core
Modem: XXJVQ

Great, thanks for that. The more I read the less it seems to matter which modem you use.

On a related, another Australian-specific issue, what's the relevance of having a local CSC (in my case OPS)? With Darky's latest ROM I have NEEJV3 and attempts to change it to OPS have been unsuccessful. I've already entered the Optus APN settings, so does the CSC matter?
