Cookies for everyone!
http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/gingerbread

If you have any suggestions for that page then let me know as I wrote it. I have installed the deodexed gingerbread and now figuring out how to get themes and animation on the device. Hot damn this phone performs better now! Finally after a year of frustration waiting for an official update from Optus, I bit the gingerbread cookie and now there is no going back!!!!

You've pretty much nailed it mate!

I've been running gingerbread on my SGS since JV1 was released. I'm now running TouchWiz4 and I'm loving it! so much better than TW3. haha.

How do I tell which TW version I am running?

I talked to a Android savvy mate today and he gave me some awesome tips.

Make sure you have root access to your phone.

In Gingerbread goto Settings -> Display -> Animations and turn them all on! Awesome! They are turned off by default in Gingerbread.

1. Download and install ADW Launcher (free version). This is a small footprint launcher.
2. Install AutoKiller Memory Optimizer (free version) and set profile to Optimum (Menu -> Presets)

All I can say is my SGS1 runs so faaaaaast now its scary....

RE: Cookies for everyone!
Be careful with those memory killer apps Jarv. they have been known to suck battery because they have to constantly run and monitor apps.

If you have TW4 you will know. The Phone, Contacts, Messaging and Applications icons on the dock are different (slightly), The screen number indicators are now at the bottom of the screen just above the dock, If you long press on the home screen to add a widget or shortcut you get something like my attached images.

RE: Cookies for everyone!
i started off using a task killer app but found its really not needed. Android does a good job of killing stuff off and on the odd occasion its running slow you can always clear the ram using the Samsung thing, or just restart (as that could be what it really needs)

on the TW4 front i must say its an improvement but still running zeam luncher. Quite similar to TW but a few tweaks. i like having my 4 most used apps on the bottom and a apps luncher and beable to set the center screen as home

RE: Cookies for everyone!
You can set a middle screen as your home screen in TW4. Smile
Well, I can anyways. haha. Its just a quick edit of the default.prop in the system folder. Smile I have 7 screens and screen 4 as my default. Works quite well.

I also have a TW4 mod that allows me to have 5 icons on the dock. Smile

RE: Cookies for everyone!
Hi Jarv & William,

Been lurking around the forums and finally checked out the Roms section - i have been apprehensive on rooting my phone etc but your guidance has assured me.
Thanks for the write up on the instructions, very straight forward - I'm happily using Gingerbread now, but without the deodexing (kind of sounds a bit hectic for me as i'm a noobie).

Cheers once again guys!
Have a good one
Will
