Slowdown Issue + returning to stock everything.

(SITUATION)
On a recommendation from me, my brother bought a SGS. When he got it I told him i could make it even better!
So I put the XXJVK 2.3.3 + CF-Root CWM3RFS on. - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthre...?t=1011901

It was working really well for a couple of months. But in the last couple of weeks it has suddenly slowed down to an absolute crawl. I'm talking like a frame every 2 seconds. Too slow to be usable and he can't even drag the unlock screen off to the side.

Absolutely everything is slow, the bootup animation, the CWM recovery. It's totally unusable. So I got him to do a factory reset from CWMrecovery and it was fast again. But 2 days later it bogged down again. So I got him to clear the cache and other stuff in the CWM recovery. It seems to go alright for a day or so and then it goes slow again. I haven't had a chance to re-flash it again yet.

(QUESTION 1)
Do does anyone know about this problem? I have the exact same rom/kernel on my phone and it runs perfectly. Also, his battery has that crushed ants smell and runs quite warm when it's being incredibly slow.

I am thinking it's a hardware issue. But I'm finally going to try a re-flash tonight. Which brings me to question 2.

(QUESTION 2)

I need to put it back to the Stock Optus Rom + Stock Kernel. Because if it is a hardware problem, I don't want him to not be covered I flashed the rom.

So does anyone know where to get the Stock 2.3.3 or at least 2.2 rom from optus. On Samfirmwares it has the 9000UGKC1 ## as the latest Australian/American 2.2 firmware. Would this be the one to go with?

I just saw in another post that the Jimmej says the DT in the firmware name denotes an Australian Rom. Does this mean the latest aussie rom is:
I9000DTJP5 ## 512.PIT 2.2 2010 November

Also, I'm assuming this hasn't got the Optus crap on it, does anyone know how to get a rom with the optus crap on too? I want it to be as Stock as possible for if he needs to return it.

Hi Mate.

Okay, to answer your questions. The issue COULD be a memory leak. JVK is an old GB rom now. I would recommend flashing to JVH and testing it. I had the same sort of issues with JVK. Also, if using Titanium Backup to restort things, do NOT restore system data. Only restore apps. nothing else. If you restore system data and app data you can get FC's and other weird things happening.

In regards to the optus rom. Because GB hasn't been released by Optus yet, DTJP5 is the latest Optus rom (Froyo) which includes all the Optus crap. Flashing this rom in ODIN will return the phone to stock rom and stock kernel.


So first of all, Flash to JVH and test for a day. see if it starts to slow down again. If it still does, you could be looking at a hardware failure and you will need to flash DTJP5 and return it.

Let me know how you go.
