Titanium Backup and going from 2.2 to 2.3.3
Guys,
I've noticed something about titanium backup which I'm curious about.

Back when I did an upgrade from 2.2 to 2.3.3, I did my usual titanium backup first. Flashed the rom, then went to batch restore my apps + data.

I noticed that quite a few of the apps were part of the 2.2 system, like messaging, internet and music. I didn't want to recover these because I thought it might screw with the 2.3.3 system apps.

Do you just batch restore everything or do you select the apps individually so they don't over write the new 2.3.3 versions?

Cheers,
Evan

RE: Titanium Backup and going from 2.2 to 2.3.3
okay, one thing that is crucial...
DO NOT RESTORE DATA!! If you are going to restore anything through titanium backup, only restore Apps. What I mean is, you can do a batch restore, but only select apps. not apps+data. If you are going to restore system data like sms messages and call logs then do them first with just 'Data" selected and then run another job to restore your apps only.

When restoring, do not restore anything that is in red. The settings you can restore safely are in green. so restore them first, then restore your apps. but remember, when restoring apps, select Apps only. not apps+data.

ah, righto, my thoughts were that Apps + data meant that the App was restored + the data attributed to it.
For example: The tripview app would be restored + all my saved routes as the data.

If I just restore Apps. Will I loose my saved routes?

You are correct.

Restoring just the app will only restore the app. Not the associated data.
If you restore that app+data you may have instabilities. This is only a MAYBE though. So you may be able to get away with it. However, if you are going from Foryo to Gingerbread... then I'd probs recommend not restoring the data as well.

If you want to try, then just try and see how you go. If you have issues with it just remove the app and re-install. Smile

Hahahaha!!!

Well Just take the risk and restore with data. In theory, it should be okay. Just make sure you aren't restoring system apps with data.

Restore Angry Birds with data on its own and see if you have issues.

EDIT: I have just restored Angry birds with data on my Partner's phone to test and it has been working fine. So you should be okay. Again, just make sure you aren't restoring any system apps with data.

I noticed that quite a number of applications were 2.2 part of the system, such as telecommunications, Internet and music. I do not want to recover these, because I think this may screw 2.3.3 system applications. You just choose your batch recover all or a separate application, so they do not over write the new 2.3.3 version?
