Root Nexus S
Hey all,
I've been trying for a while to find what appears to be a reliable guide on rooting my Nexus S.

UNFORTUNATELY: I'm striking issues with Winblows recognizing the phone, I've tried a stack of work around (including Buzz' yell at it a while solution) to no avail.

HELP!
This is giving me the irits and I really want to be able to get access to some of the root user functions on my phone.

Any help, guides or even way to effing Windows to recognize the thing is appreciated.

RE: Root Nexus S
Not knowing the phone and I'd hope you've already done this but...
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=nexus+s+rooting

USB - Possible solution - http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html

I suppose the question there is what displays in windows currently when you connect the phone?

On my Galaxy S the USB settings themselves are in the first Setting entry - Wireless and Network

In there what is USB setting is selected for your phone?
Mine gives me the choices of Samsung Kies, Media player and Mass storage. Select Mass storage.

In Applications, is Unknown sources ticked? - In the submenu Development is USB debugging ticked?
If either of those is ticked try un-ticking them.

Hope some of that's useful - I imagine that your problems are not dissimilar to stuff I was going through with the Galaxy S some time back before I rooted it the first time. Had great fun getting it to talk to Kies (one program I DO NOT miss).

RE: Root Nexus S
Already spent a couple of hours on Google and tried several solutions to my USB issue (issues like this is one of the dozens of reasons I HATE windows).

I've seen probably the best/quickest/easiest guide so far on rooting a Nexus S here - http://nexusshacks.com/nexus-s-hacks/how...t-nexus-s/
BUT the USB issue is my problem.

I've tried USB debugging mode on and off.
I've tried everything I can think of and everything I can find and I'm getting amazingly frustrated by this because I KNOW that the issue is the Windows OS. Anyone got a spare Mac they can send me?

RE: Root Nexus S
Now if I gives you me mac wot's I gonna use to keep me boat from driftin' away?

So what version of Windows? What sort of responses do you get from Windows when you connect the phone?
I know if I have debugging active I get... (unplugs phone and has a go)

Hmm, win 7 is giving no errors - done this enough that it ignores it perhaps.
I'm pretty sure the XP box at work gives an error message. Are you getting any?

RE: Root Nexus S
On my XP box at work it see's the device but despite finding and trying multiple sources for drivers...
It won't recognise the phone when it's in the fastboot menu, that's my major issue.

I've tried on 2 different Windows 7 machines (both Ultimate 64 bit) which both of them have the same issue.
I've never had this much of a problem with a device recognising in windows.

RE: Root Nexus S
Okay, I'm stumped. Without laying my hands on the device I can't think of anything else.
You're not around Adelaide are you? Undecided

RE: Root Nexus S
Hmm - pretty close then - although I could see it also if I was looking out the right window and I'm right near the train station.
