[Solved] USB not working (MTP restarting)
Anyone had the USB connection just not work? I connect the phone and MTP application just keeps restarting over and over again. Was working fine yesterday?!? Kies just says "Connecting the device..."

Go figure. When I get the solution will post it here.

RE: USB not working (MTP restarting)
Uninstall Kies and Samsung USB Drivers, both found in add/remove programs. Rebooted, re-installed Kies. With Kies running plugged in mobile, driver detection worked and mobile appeared in Kies. Let's see how long it lasts this time...

Hint for Windows 7 users,

Start Kies BEFORE connecting the phone. It seems to want to run some admin level access which requires your approval before Kies will load. This will break the autoload function which would occur when you plug your phone in.

RE: [Solved] USB not working (MTP restarting)
Thanks for the heads up Jarv,

Seems like Samsung have really made a mess of Kies. Seems like such a useless program. Too bad we are going to need it for firmware updates.

RE: [Solved] USB not working (MTP restarting)
Since I did the latest Kies and Samsung firmware update I have not been able to connect Kies to my phone *rolls eyes*.

Tried all the drivers in the end but finally at 2am this morning, it came down to a strange suggestion from some fellow. He said every time he has done a firmware update Kies has never worked for him. He had to put the phone into USB debugging debug mode to let it install drivers then back to normal made before it would work.

So I thought what the hell. To reset all the drivers to a known state I opened Kies and clicked on the top left and ran driver recovery. This reinstalls the drivers fresh. Then I rebooted. After windows came up I turned on the phone in USB debug mode, connected it to my computer and Windows 7 x64 loaded all the drivers correctly, then I disconnected. Turned off USB debugging and connected it again. It then loaded the normal USB drivers with no errors at all. Then I ran Kies and it picked up the phone perfectly.

Hallelujah! - Jesus I wish Samsung would make this easier. Synced my contacts from outlook and finally I have transferred them from my iPhone!

If this works for you, please reply and let us know.

RE: [Solved] USB not working (MTP restarting)
For me the problem started when I copied lots of MP3 to my phone.

I solve this like this:

I connected my phone using the media mode.

Searched for all *.mp3 files
renamed them all to *.! (whatever extension)
(I use a program called FAR Manager, which is something similar to the old Norton commander, but for windows)
Connected with Kies and it got recognised

Hope it helps others

RE: [Solved] USB not working (MTP restarting)
This kies connection issue seems to be the bane of the Galaxy S - and presumably the other Samsung Android phones.

For me the initial solution came from this slightly annoying youtube video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8EY2TkUKDQ

Last time it happened this just didn't work for me - this time the solution was to boot into System Recovery and then use the following option:
wipe cache partition

For anyone who doesn't know - you get to System Recovery by pressing the volume up, action button and power button.

As soon as the Galaxy S appears on reboot release the power button but keep the others pressed until you see the System Recovery screen - then quickly release them or it'll reboot.

I'm sure next time I'll need to find another solution but I've managed to avoid the factory reset option so far. Smile
