Miss teenager wants a waterproof camera to photograph fish & other critters at the beach.
Maybe thi little number is a good starting point to kill 2 birds with the 1 stone.

i would be wary about getting a cheap chinese camera. it might look the biz but the lens and sensor might take photos like my old phone.
not sure how much your wanting to spend but id say go for a known brand. Olympus is known to be good

teds will give really good advice but can cost a bit to much id say go to JB or ebay. also just get a cheap SD card off ebay or if you have a MSY near you from there

Prolly will go buy a known brand just to keep the peace with SWMBO

if you already have a camera you could just try get a waterproof case for it. then if she still seems to be into it down the road move on from there
