Help For My Dad

Hi,

My 70yo father just upgraded from an ancient Nokia handset to an HTC Wildfire S (thanks to a pushy Telstra sales rep). He only ever needed a mobile for some (long-distance) calls and txts, but whatever.

Thing is, it's his first touchscreen handset and he keeps forgetting to check whether he's actually hung up when he pushes the screen to end his call, so it sits in his pocket running up the minutes each time (again, at long-distance rates).

The first bill came in for the new phone and even without data (roaming disabled etc) it's $120 more on calls than the usual without much extra usage.

Does anyone have any ideas about a fix for this? Is there an App that'll cut the call after X seconds of silence maybe?

Any help appreciated.

im not sure about an app like that and it night not work as there would still be some noise coming through. i would be going back to Hellstra and saying give me another phone or selling it on ebay and getting a easy to use phone

I've gotta support Harvz on that one - I had a bit of a look last night and could not fine any apps which would even remotely help your dad.

Hi Groot, You can do one thing - there is a setting under call alerts "Call End Tone", activate it and it will play a tone at the end of the call, that means it may help your dad to remember the call hasn't ended until the tone sounds.
