Concerns about Miui

Ive been hearing a lot of talk about Miui of late and not all as good as it started out.
the main thing is they dont provide the source code for anything they do. there was talk that they violate the GPL licence as they dont provide the code but the thing that worries me is no one really knows whats going on in Miui.
I know it sounds a bit crazy but this Rom could be taking any data you put in and sending it to 'them'. there has been talk about the Chinese Gov but that doesnt bother me, but if other have my passwords and credit card info that begins to freak me out.

Hmm, so is there any realistic way of checking if the rom is sending data 'over there'? It certainly could happen I guess.
Am really liking Miui so I don't want to have to worry about this sort of thing.
