RE: Nexus One or Desire
Both have pros and cons:

Desire -
* Cool UI
* Wait longer for updates

Nexus One -
* Fast updates
* Easily customisable
* Basic Android

RE: Nexus One or Desire
Thanks Buzz
The cool UI has nearly got me sold, the updates i can wait for.
What is more customisable about the Nexus ?
Also the other point going for the Desire is the telstra network
Also i was looking at the Copilot Live software for android but was curious wether the app can be stored on the memory card ? If not then that app alone would take a huge chunk of the phones memory.

RE: Nexus One or Desire
Nexus is more customisable as you can unlock the bootloader with a simple command ('oem unlock') which allows you to flash any Nexus ROM you want. Then you can root it and do whatever really.

Not too sure about CoPilot, but it would make sense for them to store it on the SD card.

RE: Nexus One or Desire
ignore last post, purchased a nexus one from voda today, arrives Tuesday (a little excited)
The sales lady confirmed it is "soft locked" which means i can ask for code to unlock it at no cost.

Well, it's true that you could use the phone on "Telstra", but it wouldn't support NextG as Vodafone operate on 900/2100, but Telstra operates on 850Mhz (can't remember the other spectrum).

Telstra operates 850/2100MHz UMTS

RE: Nexus One or Desire
I had this debate with myself before going with the nexus one. I wanted the upto date sofware and easy hacking. I still run stock rom FROYO, but will move to Crynogen Mod soon. The Nexus One seems more supported in the modder circles.

The Nexus One has better (but very expensive) accessories available in acar doclk and desk dock. Both go beyond after market docks for the Desire in terms of functionality.

My current biggest concern with the nexus is the power button, I see reports around the web of it failing, but I don't know how extensive a problem this is. You use th epower button a lot as it is used to wake the phone when the screen is blank. Using Crynogen Mod rom you can enable the trackball to be used instead.

I also like the trackball, I only briefly used the Desires optical joystick and I wasn;t a fan.

On the downside the Nexus One uses the touchscreen for it's fixed buttons unlike the Desire which has physical buttons. I really woudl prefer physical buttons. I accidently touch the capactive buttons all the time, although I am getting better.

The Nexus One also has a second mic and a dedicated noise cancellation processor. I have had excellent result in noise environments with people on the other end having no problem understanding me, even when I talk softly

I thinj anyone would be happy with either phone.
re Telstra, any Android device that does not support 850Mhz is going to have a crippled experience with Telstra.
