RE: Galaxy S Tablet!
as good as it looks and as fun as the ipad is to play with, i cant think of a time when i would really use it. If im at home and cant be arsed getting of the couch to look something up on the net i use my phone and if im out and about i dont really want to be carrying a big slab of glass around waiting for me to drop it. what will others here use a tablet for?

RE: Galaxy S Tablet!
Whoah! That looks awesome.

I am very happy with the ipad. I use it primarily as an ebook reader. I'm trying to commit to having a virtual library instead of the clutter of books I have!

But now having made the switch to Samsung Galaxy S on my phones, I think I would prefer this new tablet to the ipad! LOL

My Phone: Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000
My Tablet: Apple ipad 64 Gb

RE: Galaxy S Tablet!
I went through all this when the ipad came out. I just don't have a use for it! I'll happily have a play with someone else's every now and again though Wink

RE: Galaxy S Tablet!
My poor laptop only gets used about half as much as before, and my desktop is only used for gaming and assignments

RE: Galaxy S Tablet!
Mate of mine made me think again with these

If they were running full OS like Win7 or something on it
It would be pretty decent

It would replace netbooks but because its Android powered its restricted to what Android has to offer

You definitely have a point there, as nice as the tablet is, it's still not a sufficient replacement for netbooks, I mean think of good old Steve Jobs, didn't he say that the iPad was a productivity device?? .......wtf kind of productivity can you get out of a device with a mobile OS platform and no USB ports?! As said by many and to some friends of mine that own an iPad, 'it's just a huge iPod touch'.

Now, Microsoft's showcase at Computex 2010 was interesting though...... Windows Embedded Compact 7 tablets on show, that OS looks definitely more promising, because unlike it being a mobile OS, ported to a tablet.... it's a full-fledged PC OS modified for tablets, that sounds definitely more promising and possibly something I'd think about buying.

RE: Galaxy S Tablet!
But you'll find people will buy it because it's Apple.
In fact I know someone who is buying an iPhone 4 because she has a Macbook and because the iPhone is an Apple.

Apple really have set themselves up really well and know how to market things.
They don't give consumers everything, they leave it for the next version.
Just look at the iPhone 4 they can now do video calls oh wait that's on WiFi only lol.

But I must admit I do like Apples build quality with product housing etc
One piece Aluminum Macbook beautiful now why didn't anyone think of that

Yeah definitely

I currently have a netbook and would love to replace it with a tablet of some sort.
Reason being is it wouldn't be as bulky
Keyboard would be onscreen so I could use it in bed, on the go...

With a mobile operating system you might as well use your phone.

Microsoft's OSs generally don't scale well to smaller devices.

This is going to be much more the domain of Linux I think, and it looks like the MeeGo OS, which was created through initiatives by Intel and Nokia, and now has much broader support is set to do some really interesting stuff in this space.

Linux still has to build it's application ecosystem a lot more though. But this is happening already anyway as more and more software becomes platform-independant, realising that tying yourself into Microsoft is detrimental.
