Brick Samsung Kies
So to do extra stuff with your Samsung Galaxy S or any other Samsung Device, you need Samsung Kies.

It lets you tether, update software, sync files, ra ra ra. It's ~140MB, and at times can be slow to download from Samsung, so I have uploaded it to Ausdroid for faster downloading for Aussies.

Kies 1.5.1.10062_7: Download
Kies 1.5.1.10071_32: Download

RE: Samsung Kies
Kies is the most rubbishy piece of software for a high end phone i have ever used. Complete Rubbish!

RE: Samsung Kies
How necessary is Kies?
I'm on Linux and can't seem to find any info on anyone running it successfully via wine etc.
Is it only needed to transfer files for upgrade or is there more to it.

RE: Samsung Kies
I don't believe there are any bonuses to it, except for maybe being able to Tether.

RE: Samsung Kies
I couldn't even get the tethering to work longer then 5 minutes, but that was the same with the Mobile AP on the Gal-S, but it wont install the drivers for the handset so it can check for updates or anything and once it tries the MTP app on the phone loads then flashes back to menu then loads then drops back, it also unmounts both internal and external SD storage and i need to reboot the phone before they become available again.

Samsung need to sort this out - Ive seen forums full of these issues with the Gal-S and Kies

I haven't been able to get it to do anything, in fact it wanted me to download Microsoft Activesync which i thought was strange. Only times ive ever had to use that was with the Samsung Omnia because it was a WinMo handset.

RE: Samsung Kies
strange that it asked to download Activesync. That's usually a server component that sits on an exchange server. We have that on our exchange server at work so iPhones and other smart phones can sync. Have you tried looking for the USB drivers separately and installing them?
