Samsung Kies

Since I updated Kies last night and installed the latest USB driver on my PC my Galaxy has synced to Kies straight away. Before that I couldn't get it to recognise the phone at all.

Yes I can connect my phone via the usb to mount it and transfer media files etc
I used to be able to connect to Kies, quite consistently, but it has stopped doing it.
I usually just plug the phone in and Kies opens automatically and if I choose Kies on the phone menu it tries to find the phone without success.
I have the latest update of Kies, it searches for the phone with "connecting the device Please Wait written on the right hand side, my phone says "Initialising" but nothing ever happens.

@kingkerna i had to turn on the setting "stay awake" for my girlfriends to connect.
settings>applications>development>stay awake

I downloaded Keis to enable a firmware upgrade to my Samsung. Now my phone discharges it's power overnight and my computer will not boot up!

What the hells update did it give you? Version and for which carrier?
Which phone also I guess?

plugged my sgs2 into kies this morning .. its now doing a major firmware upgrade .. not sure if its ICS or not .. forgot to write down the firmware numbers so I could tell you.

Update: It wasn't ICS .. it was Gingerbread.xwkk2 which is 2.3.6

Kies is trying to update again .. downloaded the update and then it asked me to run the update again .. so I did .. and now its asking for it again .. so frustrating.
