RE: Samsung Kies
i have never had any real problems with KIES, just make sure you use a USB port on the back of your computer. Front ones can be less than perfect as there is cables, noise etc.

yeah I've never really had any problems with KIES before either (besides the slow updates), but not until now it's having problems connecting my SGS, tried both through onboard USB and USB hub with no luck unfortunately :|

had noticed though that it wasn't reading my internal SD memory, only my 2GB partition was reading fine, could possibly be the problem, so I've got my phone just charging while off through my comp, will give an update once it's done charging and rebooted, gives KIES another go then.

Hopefully working!

and also made it clear that Samsung will offer no support to people running 64 bit architecture.

I came away from the conversation feeling very annoyed.
On the other hand it could just be this particular support guy who has this story to tell.
That is BS.. Even Samsung website doesn't say anything about Kies not supporting 64-bit OS. As long as the phone has 64-bit drivers Kies suppose to work on 64bit Win 7. Because Windows 64-bit can run both 32bit & 64bit applications.
Have you guys try running as administrator (Right click on Samsung Kies icon on your desktop and click "Run as a administrator" Press "Yes" on the next question) ? Here is the proof that Kies works on Win 7 64bit

RE: Samsung Kies
Oh I know it works on 64bit, it was working for me up until the day i had to call support... but if you try and get support from their desk, don't be surprised if they say sorry, you've got x64, we're not touching you.

But all means, if anyone feels like giving them a call and popping the question to them, I'd be curious to hear the response.

Yep, I've tried using my rear USB ports. Still no dice on my win 7 x64.

It's all good though, i'm just going to Odin to get Froyo and be done with it.

Everyone agrees on that. Shame for the hardware.
Most rubbish piece of software in any areas I ever encountered in 30 years I am involved with computers.
Defeats all the hardware great qualities Samsung hardware has.
I've dumped my lovely Samsung Wave because I can't even purchase the application (a spreadsheet, included in Picsel Office) I need. I could do that with every single PDA and smartphones I had since 20 years. Will not reconsider taking it back until the unfixable Kies is replaced and Samsung admits it erred. I've also given up the idea of buying the Galaxy Tab, which also depends on Kies.
The problem lies with the SamsungApps/Kies development team who live in denial of evidence, and with Samsung who should have fired them long ago.
Kies is a farce.
Good luck to all.
Alex
PS: anyone volunteering to write a few line of code so that Samsung users have a working alternative to Kies, with the few functions that are really needed?

RE: Samsung Kies
First post so will try not to whinge too much. Phone Samsung today to enquire about the FROYO update, was told they haven't been told when Australia will get it but are hoping for the end of the year. I then stated that I am having trouble with Kies, it doesn't recognise my phone and just cycles through saying that it is initialising. The 'tech' just mumbled a nothing answer and hoped I would go away. I then stated that to upgrade my phone I need to use KIES, he said 'yes, hopefully this will also fix any KIES issues', um, how am I going to upgrade if I don't know how to connect the phone to KIES?
I also am unsure about how to back up my phone, are these 'service providers' part time workers doing an IT uni degree or what?
All I can do with my KIES at the moment is mount my phone to transfer files, I updated it last night. Sad

RE: Samsung Kies
Welcome Kingkerna,

Can you please clear some things up for me?
Does your phone connect to Kies AT ALL? (Does Kies show your phone as being connected?)
Are you plugging your phone into your computer and waiting for your phont to say "connected" before starting up kies?
Have you tried different USB ports? (sounds silly I know but this can work)

Phone: SGS
ROM: Ryyuu's EDB v1.3
Kernel: Dark Core
Modem: XXJVQ
