Samsung Kies

RE: Samsung Kies
I am pretty happy with ICS on the sgs2 .. but the one thing that REALLY ticks me off is that Samsung has decided to remove the option to access the camera from the lock screen.

Seriously .. I am getting tired of manufacturers and network providers adding all their crap on top of a perfectly decent OS.

This may drive me to learn how to install custom roms. Grrrrr.

Yeah, I'm going to get Mik (daughter) to check her SGS2 - problem is that I'm paranoid she'll have happen what happened to me with the SGS1 gingerbread update - I got the Optus update with it's crapware instead of the vanilla Virgin update.

I realise I may be wrong but can't you just install a custom lock-screen?
You don't need to be rooted to install a customs screen - do you?

Yes you can and I already had one installed .. I was just looking forward to no longer needing to run it because I thought ICS would come with it stock.

RE: Samsung Kies
ARRRRRGH KIES!!! What a pile of junk software for a great android phone. This has definitely put me off getting the Galaxy Tab.

I’ve been trying since Sunday evening to update to android 4 (Ice Cream Sandwich –ICS), and every time the update gets half way through, it crashes. Phone now tells me to reset it in recovery mode; however it will not even do that. I’ve just taken it to the Samsung service centre and they tell me it’ll take 3 to 5 days to fix.
Very, VERY, unhappy customer of Samsung’s at the moment as I’ve put my life on that phone, which is a good phone by the way, but has absolutely cr*p sync-ing software in kies, (bloody kies). If Samsung are still tied to Kies when I come to upgrade, I will definitely be looking elsewhere.

Oh, working on an HP pavilion dv6, with windows 7 home premium and service pack 1 installed. Just a quick tip to anyone else out there with a similar set up and OS, DO NOT INSTALL THE UPDATE TO ICS until the bugs have been sorted out as my life has just been put on hold, i.e. contacts, appointments, meetings, schedules etc. for the next 3 to 5 days.

RE: Samsung Kies
Mik updated her SGS2 a couple of days ago - she's mostly happy.
