My wife has the Dext, whilst I have the Quench.
The Dext keyboard certainly comes in handy. The Dext/Quench onscreen keyboard is very difficult to get the right keys. The Motorola swype makes it a bit easier but even that can be a complete screw up as far as word suggestions go.

Battery life is a bit of a pain. The most I've gotten out of it is 2 days so far, that's with turning data access off and turning down the back light.

What I would like to know is what app can i get to turn off that annoying shutter sound for the camera?

At $19 on the Optus plan the Quench is a great phone but it would be a bit nicer if the keyboard was easier to use.

If it's not in the camera settings somewhere, having the phone in Silent will turn it off (hopefully). I'm not too sure about apps disabling the shutter sound, but this should work: http://apps.doubletwist.com/SpyShot/-552...5287852823

Nothing in settings I'm afraid. http://www.androidzoom.com/android_appli..._gfij.html This may do the trick. Will try it tonight.

RE: [DEXT] Ausdroid Review
I bought one new off ebay for $270.

It's certainly a half-decent phone, well ahead of its time w/ facebook and twitter integration. However, it's got a lot of drawbacks
- The UI of Motoblur looks a bit tacky
- The keyboard keys are bad. I can type without looking on my G1, almost seems an impossible feat with this. Maybe I'm just too used to the G1 keyboard.
- Android 1.5, 'nuff said!
- Seems to have slowed down since I first bought it (more apps, I guess)

According to some documents I've seen, Android 2.1 in "Oceania" was due Q3 I believe - If they can stick to that schedule and I still haven't bought another phone it might be a serious contender to replace my modded G1.

The G1 keyboard is the standard. It's amazing. Too bad the phone as a whole is slow & dodgy since the hinge becomes loose.

I didn't like the DEXT at all

Hrm, tried it, not like it. Does what it says and suffice for now but doesn't give the focus option and taking photos requires tapping the screen which happens often without you realising.

Tried the Silent Mode widget to no avail. There is a SilentSnap app but I can't find where to download it. Seems to have gone AWOL.

There aren't any settings. I've seen this suggestion posted elsewhere but the menu item is missing from the Quench. Silent mode doesn't silence the camera unfortunately. I did find a nice widget to switch between silent, vibrate and ring though Smile

RE: [DEXT] Ausdroid Review
I read somewhere on the internet (so don't take it as gospel) that it is illegal to silence a camera phone shutter due to privacy laws.

Current phone: HTC Hero with stock 2.1 firmware

I believe you're right, it's something along those lines anyway, depending on where you are.
