Cable Internet

Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone here has Cable Internetz or if they have previously used it.

I'm looking at going with Telstra on their 30Mbit or 100Mbit plans, but don't know if I can get either of those speeds where I am. Does the speed slow over distance? If so, I live 3.2KM from the Exchange, so I may as well go back to dialup.

I currently have ADSL2+ with TPG, but it keeps getting slower & slower. I've gone from 9Mbit to 5Mbit over the course of 2 years.

Any input is appreciated

I live approx 4 km cable length from the exchange & constantly get 4800Kbps - 6100Kbps on Internode ADSL2+ on a Hel$tra port

From my knowledge, you should be able to get just under 10000kps from an exchange 3.2km away. So you should be fine away.

TPG is going slower for me as well, although they do have a lot of Maintenance planned, so you better check if they are working on your area which may resolve the problem.

You could always try jumping to another ADSL2 provider

I was thinking of doing that, but if I can get much greater speeds from Cable, I'd prefer that.

just noticed the thread, cable is bloody fast, my games update on steam at 4.1mb/s

I am on Optus Cable. It's pretty good. get d/l speeds of about 1.2mbps on torrents...

Cable doesn't really have a consistent speed. It kinda surges. So you'll get real fast speeds for a bit then will level out and so on.

ive found my speeds consistent. Im on telstras 'elite' 50gb plan.

oh really? Perhaps it's just optus then. I never get a regular speed. it fluctuates between 500kbps and 800kbps and can surge up to 2mbps when it wants.

Can I ask just out of curiosity, how far do you live from the exchange?
