Apanda A60 COOL F910
Hi,

I bought an Android phone from China Cool . I bought one that was sold as the "COOL F910" which is similar to an APANDA A60. I have got it working on the Telstra NextG network.

Its seems to be a good android phone and was cheap at around $300 AUD.

here is a link to it.

http://www.fastcardtech.com/goods-4076-F...oding.html

The phone currently runs android 2.1. however for some reason the installed android OS did not come with ANDROID MARKET or the fully integrated GMAIL application. You can see my full comments at the sellers website. If you click the above link to see the phone and scroll down you will see my comments. A post by 'rlanc'.

I have found some sites where people are 'rooting' the phone and changing the installed OS for different versions. I have downloaded some software to do this but I'm a bit worried about doing this and ruining the phone. Huh I'm also concerned that I might go through this process and still not get Android Market or the GMAIL apps installed.

here is some interesting sites I found. Dodgy

http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f28/c...dex11.html

As I'm totally new to all this I was hoping that someone who has done this can give me a simple step by step process on backing up this phone, rooting it? (is it really necessary to root it?), and loading in another rom.

Cheers,
Big Grin
Megahurts.

RE: Apanda A60 COOL F910
i cant speak to how to get it to work, but if it is not an official version of android from google, then companies are not allowed to put on market or any other google apps

The Millennius version has Market + G-Apps btw.

As for your problems, the link you posted (http://sean-feeney.com/2010/06/how-to-ro...laze.html) seems to tell you how to root it. As for ROMs, I don't think there are any.

RE: Apanda A60 COOL F910
This F910 is not an Apanda and is not the Millennius Phone.

I bought the Millennius Apanda, It is a really good phone.

It does have GMAIL and it does have Android Market.

Buzz has also rectified this. It was his review that made me buy this also Smile

RE: Apanda A60 COOL F910
Tazz,

Yes your right. My phone is not exactly the same as the millennius Apanda A60. It is similar. It was sold as a Cool F910 but it is not even branded as Cool F910 the outside case is unbranded. However, under the battery it has a sticker which is branded AboCom (Ab-3910).Huh

The millennius appears to be the same as other Chinese Apanda A60's except rebranded Millenius and repackaged for the Australian market. And most importantly as Buzz points out the Android OS installed on millennius phone has included GMAIL & ANDROID MARKET.

Basically the F910 hardware is very similar (if not exactly the same electronically) as an Apanda A60. It is also very similar to other phones that seem to have the same hardware but differing names. It therefore follows that I may be able to install the OS from a similar phone into my phone.

Here's half a dozen names for very similar phone hardware. I just Googled around for 20 minutes and found what people say in other forums are supposed to basically be the same phone hardware.

F910
APANDA A60
AboCom AB-3910
Vibo A688
Wellcom A88
Cincinnati Bell Blaze f800
GigaByte G1305

When booting up my phone actually displays the APANDA logo???

The installed Android OS on the f910 identifies itself as:

Model: apanda-A60
Firmware Version: 2.1-update 1
Baseband version: MP1_850
Kernel version: Apps_2.6.29
Build number: 7003_2_180

The f910 that I have seems to be running APANDA-A60 android OS software. The only difference being that it does not have installed GMAIL & ANDROID MARKET.

So I'm hoping someone who reads this post will help me out with a firmware image from their similar phone that has GMAIL & ANDROID MARKET. I would imagine that the firmware image from a Apanda A60 branded phone might install into my phone, therefore giving me the two apps that I'm after.

So if someone can work out how to get the os image off their similar phone with (gmail & android market) phone let me know.

Regards,

MegaHurts.

RE: Apanda A60 COOL F910
I really doubt that it even has the same quality build, The Millennius Apanda is the original phone and made in Foxconn,

Now in china every product that is made has a replica in 6 hours, I read that somewhere, So I believe they have ripped the software out of it and put it in your junk phone, The phone I bet feels really plasticy and like a toy,

Now I could do a google search on apple ipad, I bet you I will find 4000 items that have rebranded copies.

Im sorry you just wont compare,

The reason why u dont have android market and gmail, is because Millennius apanda is certified to have from google and your phone isnt and you have to have correct IMEI etc as they stop it from going to other phones unless they crack the code some how.

What ever you do you will have to have the phone Rooted!

One work around[rooted] may be to use a third party market app like appbrain, you'll need to go to the developers site and get the APK and install manually, so you'll need a file explorer as well

HTC HD2 running Custom Froyo
HTC Desire rooted, S-Off, AuraxTSense 7.8.1
Kernel uv/oc 2.6.32 for Sense Roms
Baseband:5.11.05.14

RE: Apanda A60 COOL F910
There is no way it is the same, My friend bought one that looked like mine, it was cheaply build piece of crap, and slow as hell,

It was so cheap that the plastic was sprayed crap.. no way that you could compare this. The millennius phone is so much better. its on same par as apple, samsung quality.

How can you say its the same if you have never seen the millennius phone?
