Bloatware removal after Root...reality???
Hi all. I know this Q has likely been asked a bazillion times, but is it REALLY possible to remove the Telstra crapware from a rooted Desire? I have read many conflicting reports and posts on this, with many older entries on sites like Whirlpool celebrating the idea and more recent posts suggesting that it was all a pipe dream. I would love to hear from folks that have, catagorically, succeeded in this pursuit...
Also, while I am here, I have been scouring places like xda and others, looking for a true step-by-step rooting guide, that has been written for the layman. I consider myself moderately tech savvy, but reading many of the guides just scares me shirtless and I shy away from the idea. I would like to know EXACTLY what to do and when...and, just as importantly, which ROMs are the most reliable...there seems to be quite alot of glitching caused by the installation of various aftermarket ROMs... Sorry for the long post, or if I am covering previously well trodden ground, but I appreciate any help or suggestions. Cheers |

RE: Bloatware removal after Root...reality???
I have tried a couple of methods but have come to the conclusion that short of reloading a whole new ROM you can't uninstall bloat. I have rooted my Desire, I have tried using the titanium software too. Telstra really lock it in good.

RE: Bloatware removal after Root...reality???
Everything related to Telstra can be removed. The trickiest thing to remove is the very first boot splash screen.. known as the splash1. And even this is possible to remove but the process is not straight forward. Develepors at xda are currently working on a modification to edit this initial splash screen easily.
Other than that, all Telstra bloatware in a rooted HTC Desire is quite easy to remove. An easy to follow guide, complete with ROMS, can be found here: http://www.t-mod.org/ |

I suggest reading the "T-Mod FAQ" first. When you are ready goto "T-Mod Installation" and follow each step exactly. |

RE: Bloatware removal after Root...reality???
Just reading thru that site now. Thanks Staz, that looks real good. I notice though, that there is no mention of using a goldcard...different method??
I also found this site, last night (why is it that all the info seems to jump out AFTER I have posted the noob questions???) http://theunlockr.com/ Seems to have some useful tips, with videos. Very keen to learn how to remove that Telstra splash and all the other crap. Confidence is slowly growing....I might be ready to have a go at this soon. Maybe

I used Unrevoked3 to root my HTC Desire. It does not require the use of a goldcard. How to use Unrevoked3 is clearly explained under T-Mod Installation > Preperation I found the process very straightforward. |

Gotcha. This is the thing that I have been finding so confusing...I think there is so much info out there, with slightly different methods to each, that it is hard for the average Adam (like me) to follow anything confidently. One method states the Goldcard is imperitive, another says use this program/ROM/sequence, or whatever...
Gettin there

There is a lot of ways of doing the same thing and it came be a task trying to sort out and understand each method and choosing one right for you. I went with the T-Mod instructions and T-Mod Leedroid ROM as they are dedicated to rooting and ROM'ing a Telstra branded HTC Desire. And it was the simplest method for me to undertsand. |
