How to Root Galaxy S
Seeing as we now have a lovely Root & Rom section lets put it to good use!
Here is a guide for rooting your Galaxy S WARNING: THIS METHOD CAN BE DANGEROUS. DO NOTHING IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU DO. I CAN'T BE RESPONSIBLE IF YOU TRANSFORM YOUR I9000 INTO A BRICK Tested on JF2, JFB, JF3 EDIT: Some people have been having problems with the update.zip. I have uploaded a new update.zip which now works completely. Method: 1. Download update.zip from the attached files section at the bottom of this post 2. Attach your phone via usb. 3. Drag down the notification bar and turn on USB storage. 4. Copy update.zip to the root of your SDCard (drag and drop) 5. Power off your phone 6. Hold Vol up + Home + Power to boot into recovery mode 7. Select 'apply sdcard:update.zip' (use vol_down + home) Phone will reboot and you have 1. su+Superuser 2. busybox (/system/xbin/busybox) To test open a terminal app on your phone and type su If the phone asks for root permission select "Accept Always" Congratulations you have just successfully rooted your phone! How to install busybox utils in terminal enter Code: su busybox --install -s /system/xbin Phone: SGS ROM: Ryyuu's EDB v1.3 Kernel: Dark Core Modem: XXJVQ |

RE: How to Root Galaxy S
Hmmm...fair enough.
Well It must refer to the Baseband. Though when updating (Flashing) it is the firmware you update not the Baseband. It will also work on your JF3 firmware as JFB is successor to JF3. Phone: SGS ROM: Ryyuu's EDB v1.3 Kernel: Dark Core Modem: XXJVQ |

RE: How to Root Galaxy S
On Linux this worked fine, a couple of points worthy of note:
In adb I still see the $ prompt. 2. Put update.zip to SD card ( ./adb push update.zip /sdcard/ ) |

Put update.zip to SD card ( ./adb push update.zip /sdcard/ ) You should be able to just put the update.zip manually on the the root of the SDCard. ie. drag and drop. Thanks for the updates. I'll edit the main post. Phone: SGS ROM: Ryyuu's EDB v1.3 Kernel: Dark Core Modem: XXJVQ |

RE: How to Root Galaxy S
Ah, steps number 2 & 3 confused me
for some reason thought they were related. thanks for sorting that out William. Then it could have been even simpler to get update.zip onto the phone. Download update.zip Attach your phone via usb. Drag down the notification bar and turn on USB storage. Copy the file across. |
