I'm not rpt not a developer, so I haven't got the Java stuff loaded on my PC. So when I try to unzip the downloaded SDK it directs me to get the Java bits, or abort the installation...

Is there a way to avoid this behaviour?

Thanks.

You don't need the JDK (Java Development Kit)...you just need the JRE (Java Runtime Environment), without which you aren't much of an Interwebs user let alone an ADB user Wink

Google Nexus One @ froyo [2.2.1]| Huawei IDEOS u8150 @ froyo [2.2]| HTC Wildfire @ eclair [2.1-update1] | emulator @ whatever

Android releases:
- WeatherCell.net Australia BETA
- SnowCell.net Australia Ski Slopes

Thanks for that - on some machines I don't run respectively update Java out of security concerns...

Cheers

So I downloaded the JRE and ran the install again - but the pop-up still insisted on the JDK rpt JDK being present on the machine...

Have just downloaded and installed that one as well BUT the message stays the same, what do you make of that?

Rgds,

Could be one of a whole bunch of things...are you sure you've installed the appropriate version of JRE or JDK?
You possibly need to manually enter the path to JRE/JDK in your system's CLASSPATH variable. (For XP) Right click on MyComputer > Properties > Advanced > Environment Variables > Edit 'CLASSPATH' and have a look to see if there's anything to do with JAVA already in there (if not, add the path to your install of JRE or JDK in there).

Thanks coder, will try this when I get a quiet moment :-)
In the meantime, I've rooted my Garmin-Asus A50, installed Root Explorer and am poised to delete unwanted/unnecessary stuff...
