Quench/Dext/Backflip stuck on 1.5
In response to news article: http://ausdroid.net/2010/09/14/own-a-mot...droid-1-5/

foreva!

To Motorola from me:
-------------------------------------
Hi there,

Since you guys aren't updating Android for the Motorola Quench in the Asia/Pacific region, what are the chances of the Cliq XT update that is being released for the American audience being made available to those of us that want it?

I bought my Quench (from Optus) with the belief that Motorola would be upgrading to 2.1

Hoping there is a solution to this.

Kind regards, Justin

From Motorola back to me...
------------------------------------------
Dear Justin,

Thanks for reaching out to Motorola. I’ve reviewed your e-mail dated 15/09/2010 07.40 AM and I’m ready to help.

For the moment, Motorola Quench phone will remain on firmware 1.5, there is no announcement they are still going to provide update for your model and for your region, however, when update is available, you will be notified by your service provider that it is ready for download. You just need to download it when it is pushed to your phone, or you may manually get it by going into Settings, About Phone, and System Updates.

All Motorola Android Phones are capable of updates, however, the evaluation and implementation of this update for all Asia Pacific consumers are not only done by Motorola and Google, before we make public of this update and the enhancement that came with it, it must be configured to work according to your carrier configuration and setup.

Motorola Quench, Dext and Backflip, no longer sold by Optus. Guess that means even Optus are a bit put off by this news, and also means even less chance of getting it upgraded, unless you do it yourself.

Yeah I know and I'm with you. I got the DEXT x 2 back in late April and my my decision was influenced by the then planned upgrade to 2.1 over going with another handset.

While there is some rom out there running 2.1, maybe the CLIQ will get official update in the US and someone can put the Australian baseband in and we can do it on our phones

DickSmith are selling the quench XT5 with android 2.1 $399 outright. The spec's look the same as The HTC wildfire, is this phone any good, I have never owned a Motorola nor HTC for that matter, but I am eager to get my hand's on a $400 android phone.

Can't find it on the dse.com.au site nor dse.co.nz Can you post a link? Would like to get a look at it.

Not sure I would buy a Motorola again after their dropping of the O.S. upgrade, especially when Android 3.0 is coming.
I don't find my phone too bad for a base model, aside from the loud camera shutter noise, may be different on the XT5.
