Viewsonic G Tablet
I bought a Viewsonic G Tablet from the US, arrived yesterday. It's a tegra2, 10" 1024x600 screen, 512mb ram, 16gb onboard with microSD slot, running 2.2.

Here's the offical web site: http://www.viewsonic.com/gtablet/

And here is my current setup: http://www.dropbox.com/gallery/5108947/1...t?h=06e19a

I'm running a custom rom TnT Lite 2.21 from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245

This rom gives me ClockworkMod recovery, full market, Google Apps, Flash, and improves performance significantly

It cost AU$500 delivered, purchased from Sears via PriceUSA. Happy to answer any questions.

RE: Viewsonic G Tablet
That's very cool. Just found your post through google. I'm planning to get a friend to pick me one up in a few weeks time unless I can find a way to get one to Melbourne sooner.

I was going to ask about performance and also about shipping times through PriceUSA but I found all the info I needed in your thread over at whirlpool:
http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1567614

Seems like the fulfilment time from Sears was the big hold up huh?

One other question I have: How responsive is the touchscreen now that you've installed the TnT rom? especially for drag manipulation (like swiping, scrolling, sliding things, dragging) Can you compare it to anything else (iPad, Galaxy Tab)? I'm interested in using this for music applications -- the tablet reviews I see on You Tube make Android tablets seem less responsive than the iPad. In theory this should get better with Gingerbread's new event routing but I'm wondering how your G-Tablet's touch screen performs at the moment...

Thanks!

RE: Viewsonic G Tablet
The hold-up at Sears was frustrating since I had paid extra money for express shipping, I think the sales around Thanksgiving must have delayed dispatch from the warehouse. All up took 2 weeks from payment to delivery so not that bad. But once the money is paid I just want it straight away! Smile

I had the ipad for 2 weeks so I can use that as a source of comparison. I got rid of the iPad because I like modding my device, almost as much as using it, and because I watch movies n my daily commute and the iPad screen is 4:3 whereas VS is 16:9. I had also put down a pre-order for the Archos 101 Internet Tablet but cancelled that due to numerous delays and the older specs.

Screen responsiveness is OK, but definitely reduced now that i've applied Tnt Lite. Not sure why that is, but it does indicate it is a software issue rather than hardware. I will probably flash the VEGAn rom soon which is a port of the Advent Vega rom, as that seems to be the best supported now.

Depends on how you plan to use the tablet, but I do not regret my purchase at all. The hardware specs are solid and it is one of the fastest android devices around right now. It is far from perfect but great to play with

RE: Viewsonic G Tablet
Nice video. It's videos like this displaying the capabilities of the Viewsonic GTablet that has persuaded me not to wait for the Archos 101. I've just placed an order today through Amazon with a delivery date of next Monday, cost $447.35USD, so I'm probably looking at approx $450AUD once the charges hit my CC. I could of gotten it for $420, but I thought the extra $30 or so to get it here by next week would be worth it, instead of waiting 10 days plus.

Upon receipting my Gtab, I'm hoping to load VEGAn straight away, but in the mean time it'd be great if you could do us a favour and load VEGAn. =)

RE: Viewsonic G Tablet
Once you accept that you are paying for the potential of this device, not it's abilities out the box, it's a great purchase. I don't see this tablet becoming popular in the mainstream, but for people familiar with android or willing to mod the device it really is fantastic.
The hardware specs blow the Archos 101 out the water - VS has 512mb ram and a dual core tegra2 processor. Plus it is open and the android community is strongly supporting this device and we already have 4 custom roms for it, in time this device will just get better.
I'll try to post another video showing browser and video playback. VEGAn is at beta 3, I might wait for beta 4 before flashing it. We are expecting a major update from Viewsonic around the 19th and I want to ensure those changes are incorporated into my next rom update.

EDIT: I have an itchy trigger finger, already updated to VEGAn b3. Some UI changes for the better, performance about the same.

RE: Viewsonic G Tablet
I believe VEGAn b3 has functional USB keyboard/mouse support. Any chance of confirming that LeChuck?

RE: Viewsonic G Tablet
USB keyboard and mouse work fine via USB hub plugged into the USB host port. Very cool!!

Also here's a quick video showing VEGAn b3 with some web browsing.

EDIT: I said in the video that this has a higher res than the Galaxy tab, it doesnt, both are 1024x600. oops.
