Hey, it should work, I would take it into optus to get them to have a look at the apn settings, this phone should really be great on the optus network, much better than the original network it was sold on!

RE: HTC desire hd optus internet not working on phone
hi guys

I was having the same problem on my new HTC Desire HD (unlocked and new) with a Optus SIM.

After speaking to tech support a few times and they were helping these are the settings that now make my phone's data plan/internet work fine.

Code:
Name:        "Optus yes"
APN:        "yesinternet"
Proxy:        <Not set>
Port:        <Not set>
Username:    <Not set>
Password:    <Not set>
Server:        <Not set>
MMSC:        <Not set>
MMS Proxy:    <Not set>
MMS Port:    <Not set>
MMS Protocol:    WAP2.0
MCC:        505
MNC:        02
Auth Type:    PAP
APN type:    "default"

The MOST important part of it is

APN type: "default"

Optus was telling me to set this to "internet". Once I put this to or "default" then the internet worked fine.

I hope this helps

Hi,

Just bought the same smarphone but when I inserted my optus sim card, it seems it is not recognising as there is a question mark beside a sim.

Hi there redroid, welcome to Ausdroid! Smile

Your problem could possibly be that the phone is still locked if you bought this from Vodafone outright, all Vodafone handsets are locked via their pre-installed software, costs $75 to unlock via Voda, or you can wait for 6 months and then have it unlocked by Voda for $25.

I hope this helps in your case.

Thanks for the response ilzy. I actually purchased it from ShoppingSquare.com which is under Apus Corp. I understand that the unit came from HongKong hence the default language was Chinese. In fact, it only took 3 days for delivery which was really good. I have now returned the item back to them as they will investigate if the phone was faulty. I still believe that the phone is indeed locked since I also tried another Telstra sim card which also was not recognised. Would you know if anyone could unlock it if they're tech support claims they couldn't fix it.
