Nexus 10 - Is it worth it?

Postby JohnPG » Mon Dec 03, 2012 11:43 am

Hi All,

I've got a Nexus 7 and am very happy with it, my other half was muttering something earlier about wanting a 10" tablet without being specific about why or what she'd want to use it for.
Personally I've been restraining myself from just getting one because a) I can't really justify one b) I'm not sure about the horizontal shape/aspect and c) I've not been impressed with the build quality and feel of the other samsung tablets.

What are the thoughts of those of you here who have bought one and is there any particular reason (finances aside) why anyone may not have bought one?

cheers

J

PS I did watch the video podcast thing

We have 2 10inch tabs one 16:9 and an ipad 4:3 most of the things i use it for is watching videos on the couch while the other half is watching lame tv so i like the 16:9 for that and when im just on the net i dont have a problem with it.
I also just got my little brother a Nexus 7 for Xmas and have been seeting it up with apps and other bits and i have to say i think its much better that the 10 inch size and weight

Welcome to the boards John,

I am currently trying to decide between the nexus 10 and the asus infinity .. for me the infinity is likely going to win as it has expandable memory which is a deal breaker for me. I like having plenty of space with the option to add more if I want to. I still cannot understand why Google didn't give us the expandable memory option for the nexus tablets .. a big mistake in my opinion. The other issue pushing me towards the asus is the battery life is better by about 2.5 hours then the nexus 10 which has been rated at 7 hours while the asus infinity is rated at 9.5.

As for build quality I can't really comment because I haven't held a nexus 10 in my hand .. but I have held an infinity and I have to say its the only android tablet I've held that even comes close to the build quality of the ipad .. thats one thing apple does really well imo.

Anyway .. thats my take on it. If your happy with the space given on the nexus 10 and 7 hours battery life is good enough for you then go the nexus 10 for sure .. all reports say the screen is amazing which could account for the average battery life. The price difference between the two is fairly significant as well.

The screen of the nexus 10 has to be seen to be believed. I own a transformer prime but bought the n10 for my mum's birthday... The screen is mind blowing, and let's face it, the screen is the most important part!

For my mother who wants to use the tablet as a reading device, of both websites and books - the screen was the most important thing - so I got her the device which has the best screen available. The resolution makes reading on the device an absolute delight - text renders like a printed page.

The only thing I can think of is that Samsung/Google should have released a keyboard/cover that makes use of the pogo pins. The pogo pins are currently useless, they don't work with any accessories at all.

So my advice is if you are looking for a laptop replacement, get the Transformer Prime or Inifity. If you want a device with the best screen available - go with the N10.

I had an iPad for a couple of years so had some trepidation about 'downsizing' to the Nexus 7 but in the last 5 months or so, I have absolutely grown to love it. The device is a very good size for carrying around (mine never leaves my side whether for work or play) and the screen is very good. You wouldn't want to type an essay on it but for meeting notes, checking emails, reading books / mags or the net, it works exceptionally well for me.

Well, I'd have to be completely blown away by the screen in order to overlook the battery life and lack of expandable memory. What goodsan epic screen if it doesn't last long enough to enjoy?

hahaha true... battery if is passable though - my mum has a routine now, plug the phone and tablet in at night, every night - that way she never gets below 50% power. Seems to work for her - the screen is magical though, I imagine that when google get these in stores they will fly out as people will get to see the screens in person.

I ordered an N10 on Monday the 3rd of December for my much better half, knowing that I can be another user (sneaky, I know :D ).

They are now sold out in the Play Store, and I am yet to receive any delivery details.

Grrrr.

Ohhh Noooo!

A few days ago I received an email saying that I would have to wait 3 weeks for delivery!

Oh well, it's nice to know that the N10 is in hot demand.

Got a message from Google on the 21st of December saying that the N10 that I had ordered has been shipped :P

Received another message today saying that they have refunded the $20 postage charges.

It might just make it to me on the 24th, that would be nice!!
