Samsung Galaxy Note 2

Postby emptiful » Tue Dec 04, 2012 11:41 pm

Hi all,

My Note 2 should be arriving in the next day or two, so if anyone else is considering it, ask me some questions and I'll do my best to answer them.

By the way, like many others, I was excited about getting a Nexus 4 but missed out, and so I decided on the Note 2 instead.

My reasons? Mostly the expandable storage and the fact that I can actually get one, but also the more I read about the performance and features of the Note 2, the more I was convinced it was the phone I wanted.

LTE, not a big deal for me, but I won't mind having it for later on down the track, since I'm on a new 2 year contract.

My pockets might not appreciate the new toy though... :)

Hi Lain,

Welcome to the Ausdroid boards .. I'm like you .. if it doesn't have expandable storage I won't buy it. Let us know how you go once you've had it a few days.
Current Phone: SGS3 running 4.1.2 stock

Thanks Pete. It's actually IAIN (same as Ian, but with 2 i's).
Really hoping I'll get it before the weekend cause my wife is away and I have nothing else to do but geek out with a new toy! :)

First impression: WOW! So quick and smooth... as expected, huge difference from my old HTC Desire HD. My daily game Dead Trigger loads in a few seconds instead of 30 seconds! And the screen looks awesome!

So I only received it yesterday... and felt the need to install Go Launcher Ex before I went to sleep last night!

I've seen some word about this elsewhere, but apparently on Australia phones with the newest version of TouchWiz, you can't change the dock app shortcuts. So it was stuck with the built-in Email and Internet apps instead of Gmail and Chrome.

I've also been tempted to change the lockscreen with Go Locker, but saw reports of issues on the S3, so it may not be a seamless transition.

Also, without rooting, I can't fully disable the TouchWiz launcher, so if I open apps using the notifications and then press back, it will open the TouchWiz launcher again. We'll see how long I put up with it before rooting the phone.

Also, you have to press the S-Pen a little harder than I expected to 'click' things, so it's not as quick to get around as I thought it would be. The 'AirView' previewing function when hovering over things with the S-Pen is handy and pretty slick, but as expected, only works in the Samsung apps. It's enough for me to keep the S-Planner as my calendar instead of my usual choice, Business Calendar Free.

Otherwise, loving it so far. Any questions, feel free to ask.

One of our writers here at ausdroid loves his... Swears by it and is always teasing us with his 4g speeds... Looks as great phone... Will do very well I reckon... You made a good purchase.

Not so sure about go launcher.. Haven't used that since gb days.. Using nova exclusively now... Much nicer imo but then go may have been improved since I used it

It was mostly the fact that it wasn't TouchWiz...

I've just been using Go Launcher since the time when LauncherPro and ADW were the only other competitors. Might give Nova and Apex a shot.

Know any good lock screen replacements?

Think of Samsung's Galaxy Note 2 as a big phone rather than as a tablet wannabe, and you'll come closer to appreciating its top-flight smartphone specs.
